When Honda ADV 160 outperforms regular scooters on Samui?

At Hin Lad waterfall last October I rode the access trail on the ADV 160 beside a friend on an NMAX 155: the trail drops 80 metres over 2.5 km of laterite, loose rock and exposed roots, and the ADV took it seated at 30 km/h while the NMAX needed standing technique and reached the bottom with both tyres marked. That settles when it earns its place - any trail changing surface type more than twice a kilometre. In wet season the plantation tracks above Nathon turn to slick mud in one storm, and its 160 mm clearance and semi-knobby rear found the firm edges after 40 mm of overnight rain. On the deep dry sand approaching Laem Sor it reached the beach where the following NMAX rider stopped and walked. On pure ring road tarmac at 80 km/h it feels less planted than the NMAX. It beats regular scooters on any day with an off-tarmac section, a wet jungle track or a beach approach that changes surface twice. https://samui-bikes.com/en/scooter-rental-koh-samui/rent-honda-adv-160/when-honda-adv-160-outperforms-regular-scooters-samui/
