Between Mae Nam and Bo Phut where the sealed road gives way to 1.5 km of compacted gravel, it crossed without slowing, the big wheels rolling the embedded stones. But at the Hua Thanon beach access, 150 m of soft sand stopped the front wheel in 30 metres - the 29ers lack the volume to float and the tarmac-tuned geometry does not help, a limit shared by every bike here, not just the Cannondale. The Chaweng beach road promenade is its happiest coastal surface, clean concrete and ocean views at relaxed speed.
